Choeung Ek, Cambodia: One of the most sobering sites I have visited. It is the site of a former orchard and mass grave of victims of the Khmer Rouge. One of "The Killing Fields", where the regime executed over one million people in the mid to late 70s. Many of those executed here were former political prisoners who were kept by the Khmer Rouge in the Tuol Sleng (S-21) detention center in Phnom Penh.
