Sandy Beach Reserve lies at the base of Koko Crater, or Kohelepelepe on the South Shore of Oahu. It features jagged volcanic lava rock and is generally regarded as the one of the best body boarding sites on Oahu. Its currents however are treacherous due to the abrupt change in depth along the shoreline, and the rips are difficult to read.

Finding a safe vantage point on the volcani...c rocks to set your tripod or a fishing rod is also a trial, as some of the dawn fishermen and myself can readily attest to.
